Since most midwives and birth centers do a global fee, is it normal to ask for a lower fee if you come in later in pregnancy? I will be around 20 weeks when I officially start seeing them so I won't be having as many appointments as someone who started at six or eight weeks

Ours did. Their normal fee was $3500, I started seeing them at 35 weeks (when we moved back from China), and they reduced it to $2500.

Hey thanks for the reply. Hope all is well. How did you approach them with that or did they bring it up?

I think starting at 20 weeks would be considered late in care so I would definitely ask if they would give you a discount. They should go over their fees in your consult visit so I would ask then.

I asked DH last night if we should bring it up and he said they already offered it! He had been the one talking about insurance and billing with them as they are helping us get their facility covered in network under a forbearance. And they mentioned that because I'm coming in later they're taking off either $400 or $500

Hey, that's great news! Yeah, for us they brought it up at our first consult as well. I think it must be standard practice in the industry. It's awesome that things seem to be falling into place for you for a homebirth! That's really exciting.

That's awesome they're willing to do that. I discussed that with a midwife who said that she couldn't do that because her fee was already reduced (because I'd be paying her cash) and the bulk of her fee is in attending labor/birth/postpartum. If only they all worked the way yours is willing to!
