I just wanted to see how diverse our homebirther's care was and if everyone was happy with their choice.

I used a CPM and was very happy with her care. She was very knowledgable and made me feel comfortable.

I totally admire those who go at it unassisted... I soo don't think I could do it. It would freak me out too much.

I wish I could vote too, but I havent had a homebirth yet! I am having prenatal care under a CNM though, and if I deliver at home it will be unassisted.

I'm a little bit of everything in there, I have an LPM but I've never met her face to face, only talked with her on the phone and through email and she's guided me through managing my own prenatal care. I've seen an OB twice (once at 22 weeks after a bit of dialation and again at 27 weeks) but am not going back, I love her but she shakes my confidence. So I don't know how exactly to classify myself, but I'll take the title of unassisted should someone else bestow it upon me.

When I was planning my homebirth in Louisiana I traveled to Florida and practically Texas for prenatal care with 2 different CPM's. There were no midwives doing homebirth in my area. So the UC was the only way. They both prepared us so well for our birth.

But now that I am training as a CPM and we have another midwife in the same area as me I will use her as my midwife. But she will be more a friend at my birth than my midwife.

I don't think I would have liked a CNM. I think they are more into the medical model....do yall know that to be true or am I being a bit unfair?

I've never used one... so I'm not sure. My midwife's back up is a CNM though, I almost had to use her for Aiden. But my midwife really knows the people she works with and knows to stay away from the medwives. She even backs up a doctor who does homebirths.

I know that all the CNM's around here are very much into the medical model... Not all of them choose that, but in Iowa and Illinois to be a CNM you have to work under a doctor, and whatever the doctor says goes. It's very frustrating.
