I wish I could help more, but I really have no idea. I would call my midwife first. I know that MOST insurances do not cover homebirth, but that doesnt mean that yours wont. Some will pay a percentage, I would call my mw and ask her if she knows anything, and then contact my insurance company. Good luck, and CONGRATS on your decision to have a homebirth!

Hey, first find out if it's legal in your state, not that that really matters, but it will prob have a bearing on your insurance. Yeah, call your midwife, do you already have one? My homebirth will be illegal, it's not legal in my state, and I have to pay totally Out of pocket, but it's 2500 and she's willing to wait till my taxes come back, EIC, so we're good, and it's totally worth it for me.

If your insurance doesn't cover a homebirth midwife you might consider asking her what she would charge for birth only. That way you could see an OB, discontinue care whenever you feel the need and only use your MW for birth. Some MW's will do this others won't. I have a lay midwife who is my backup in case baby is breech and she will only charge for the birth if she attends. It's a lot cheaper to have her on and have insurance pay for an OB.

I would call the midwife and ask her. I had gotten on our insurances website and she was not listed as a provider but when we talked to her, we found out she took our insurance. We still paid $1000 out of pocket.

You will not regret this decision!! Congratulations on your baby!!

When I had that insurance about 3 years ago they did cover homebirth with a cpm. You will just have to call them and ask. Also talk to your midwife and see if she does the whole insurance thing.
