I have my getting to know you appointment with a new midwife tomorrow (my first baby was born in Canada) and I'm trying to think of all of the really important things that I should ask at a first appointment. Besides her standard policies, what to expect while in her care, and my concerns about a repeat of preterm labor, I'm at a bit of a loss. What are the things I want to be sure to ask at a first visit?
Well depending on your views of meds while in labour (epi, etc) I'd ask her what's her opinion on those, and inducing. Ask her what her hospital priveldges are aswell and anything else you are adament against or for. And about the PP aftercare. Does she come to your house after you have the baby? If so how many visits etc. How many births has she attended? How does she feel about episiotomy's? How does she practice during a birth? Will there be another midwife along side of her? How does she feel about a doula attending the birth with you? Is there a specific one she recommends? (assuming you want a doula). If I can think of any more I will let you know, but good luck and I hope she is a suitable fit for you and your sprout!
