Hey, did you all know that the hospitals put this wierd crap on the cord stump and THAT makes it stay on for weeks? My baby's stump came off on day 4 this time, and i freaked and called MW and she was like, yeah, with HB, 3-5 days is normal, and she explained about the stuff the hospital puts on, and i was like AWSEOME! she was like, yeah, i knew that would tickle you, lol

Interesting,
I wonder what they put on the cord stump over there?

My mw has never put anything on any of my children, and the cord stump has always been off within 3-4 days

Huh. I didn't know that.

Well ... Google hates me! Googling (yes I used it as a verb! ) shows nothing except "do you mean Triprolidine?". But triprolidine is an OTC antihistamine. So ... I don't think that's it!

ETA: Now I'm really frustrated! I can't find anything about it at all! I even tried "hospitals put this weird crap on the cord stump" and got nada. I am too weird ....

What purpose does that stuff serve? I mean, why do they want the stump to stay on longer?

I have no idea.....i'm kind of jaded, but here's the only thing i can think of....1) they can charge extra for it and bill insurance an extra $100 for one squirt. Or it bled a tiny bit for a couple of days, well, actually till he was like 12 days old. I called my MW 2-3 times about it, SHE doesn't mind if i get neurotic and call her all the time, but a doc might want to avoid that?
