I have been really REALLY busy in the last few months and have lurked some but have not posted in a good while. I just wanted to check in, since I am mere weeks away from my third home waterbirth, to say hello and to let you know another homeborn baby will be coming soon!
I had a good appointment with my homebirth midwife. She came to my house today with 2 of her 10 children, and they played with my girls. My bp is high, like end of pregnancy last time, which saddened and frustrated me... I am usually 120 over 70 or lower, and I am usually those numbers during most of pregnancy. Last pregnancy, starting at 37 weeks, it started climbing.. 135/85 at 37w, 140/90 at 38w, 145/95 at 39w, and then 20 minutes after I had Felicity, it was 150/100.
Today it was 140/80. So she told me to get serious about getting a part time nanny hired, like Ive been talking about, and to try to rest. She attributed some to my husband's crazy work schedule lately and his work stress... and some to my genetic predisposition to high blood pressure from my dad and his parents. I am so thankful that during the last few weeks of pregnancy is the only time I have to deal with high blood pressure... so far anyway.
My midwife palpated my uterus, and baby was laying left occipital anterior, which means he is in awesome birthing position, ( I think ROA or LOA are optimal for birth, the OA part means facing back) She estimated his size at between 7 1/2 and 8 pounds. That was surprising to me, but not too much, since Grace made her debut at 37 weeks 2 days and was 7 lbs 5 oz. He is a bit bigger, guess that makes sense, being a boy. My other two came at 39 1/2 weeks, and they were 9 lbs 4 and 9 lbs 0.
In my past three pregnancies, I have always measured either right on for my weeks or ahead. This pregnancy in particular, I have measured between 2 and 4 1/2 weeks ahead at varying times. IN past pregnancies, the appt before I go into labor shows that I have lost a cm in fundal height. Right now, I am measuring 35cm at 37 weeks. For me, that correlates to the fact that he is still REALLY LOW in my pelvis. I updated last time and said that she told me he was at +1.. which is 1 cm further than halfway through the pelvis. Today she said that baby is between +1 and +2. If he were any lower, he would be crowining.. (+3).
Baby heartbeat was 140
The vaginal exam revealed that I am 80-90% effaced, and 1 cm dilated. Ahhh progression. Doesn't tell you a thing! In my first pregnancy, I lost my plug and my water broke 4 hrs later. In my second pregnancy, I never saw my plug, and was 4 cm and 100% effaced for 12 days before I went into labor. In my third pregnancy, I was 1 cm and 50% effaced at my 39 week visit, and 3 days later, I had a 1 hr 15 minute labor and an unplanned unassisted homebirth. So I know that I could go into labor any day now, or I might go another week or two, or three. There is really no way of knowing.
So, that's my newsy little update. Thanks for reading!
Good to hear from you! I'm going to see A on Monday for my 27 week appt. Can't believe I'm heading into 3rd Trimester already! Glad you are doing well and looking forward to hearing your birth story.
By the way, do you take the tub to your house early? Or does A bring it when you are labor? I know I can ask her on Monday, but I figured you'd know!
Are you trying the high protein diet for the blood pressure? Or does that only help with pre-eclampsia? I know A said she had some bp problems with her last ones, so I suppose she knows what you are going through.
I had bp problems at the end of my last pregnancy. My midwife put me on a no-white flour, no-sugar diet and it came down in 24 hours. So maybe it's something you could try if you're interested. Sounds like you are ready to go! I hope things go well. Man, I WISH I could be +2 at the end of my pregnancies!! Mine always stay really high pretty much until pushing. Good luck!
