One of my friends walked up to me yesterday and we started talking. We get to the how are you's and he said "Oh, I've got the flu." So I think he is kidding because who in their right mind would walk up to their friend knowing that their child is immunodeficient and just say that? So I was talking to him last night on FB and asked if he really had the flu or if he was just kidding. He doesn't answer. He walks up to me this morning after chapel and says, "I really do have the flu. The nurse told me it is still okay to go to class though as long as I don't cough on or touch anyone." WTH!?!?!?!? You don't have to cough on someone or touch them to spread the flu! Especially not with Danny's immune system!!! I am so livid right now. What kind of people are alive today? Seriously!?!?!?! Where have peoples' brains gone?!?!?! GRRRRRR!!!!!!
When I was pregnant with my oldest, I was attending a baby shower (MY baby shower at that). My brother (who is clueless) came in with his family. After I hugged everyone, he laughed and told me that they had just come from the doctor where my nephew had received his chicken pox vaccination. They told him to stay away from anyone who was pregnant. (I have never had chicken pox but tested later and found my titers were high enough). I left the baby shower with my in-laws (who were practically pushing me out of the door at that point). My mother said something to my brother who basically said I was over-reacting.
So yes, people are foolish. How horrible to go near someone who has a compromised immune system! I'm sorry.
Just the other day, someone I know was complaining to me how often my son is sick. She said, my son had asthma and was NEVER sick as much as your child.. I was in shock that she went off on me.. I told her, I would do anything to have a healthy child and not all asthma kids are the same..
That is just rude! Mothers of all people should understand that kids will get sick, some more often than others. What right did she think she had to complain to you about how often your child is sick? It isn't like you feed him germs for dinner.
She was in a bad mood that day. I wish I could control it, but it does not work that way.. I think she must have forgotten what it's like because her kids are teenagers now.. But still.. Those words hurt me.. She did ask for me to forget what she said and did apologies.. But I can't forget it.. At least for now I can't..
