Im thinking of trying allegra with Frederick. The Zyrtec just isn't doing anything for him. My sister was on fexofenadine (which is what is in Allegra) as a child and did fine. Zyrtec didn't work for her either.

My neice has been on it too.

Also, what else can a dr give to help control asthma and the asthma coughing? Frederick is *still* coughing and now he sounds congested in his chest. I've been using his pulmicort and albuterol but it's only taking care of it short term, then the cough comes back.

It can be as simple as he's sleeping and he wakes up coughing...several times, he's running around and ends up coughing, wheezing, and more coughing.

His allergist/asthma dr didn't call me back yesterday. I'm pretty steamed about that.

Jeremy does singular, we haven't tried anything else as that worked for us. I know for my allegra works better for my allergies than claritin but I don't know how kids would react to it. How long has he been on the zyrtec? I know Jeremy takes about 2 weeks to really show improvement from his singular if he has been off for a bit. We will sometimes come off of it during the summer months when cold season isn't bad. His asthma flares up when he gets a cold. I would for sure ask the dr about it though and see what they say. It can't hurt to ask right .

Frederick's been taking Zyrtec (1 teaspoon), Singular (1 4 mg packet), and flonase since December 2009/January 2010 daily. It never controlled his allergies. He'd still get URI's, bronchitis, croup too, as well as sinus infections.

I made the decision to try allegra tonight. I'll give him 2 weeks on it and see if it helps the allergies or not. It's in conjunction with singular and flonase.

I was in the parking lot of Kroger and I could hear the cough/wheeze. Luckily, my sister was working and she got us to where we could plug his nebulizer in.

That was scary.

Did you ask the pharmacist to make sure those four are all okay together? I would talk to your doc about doing a preventative inhaler. Danny is on Advair. Before we started advair...nothing worked. Allegra, singulair, zyrtec, clariten, benadryl...nothing. Advair is the only thing that helped Danny. Once he had the Advair the singulair kicked in and took over for the remaining symptoms and he didn't get sick with anything respiratory until his allergist tried to take him off the Singulair. He got a sinus infection within 10 days. :/ I would push for a preventative inhaler and DEFINITELY talk to the pharm to make sure you don't need to eliminate one of the meds when you add the allegra...

The pharmacist said we could do all of them before I bought the medicine. I'm going to call the asthma dr/allergist one more time today and find out if he can have an inhaler.

He's had all of those and they don't control his allergies (well, just now trying Allegra). He *still* coughs. I wish they would listen to me. I know they're going to say, keep the pulimicort going 2x a day and have him take the alubterol. Which I already do. It helps for a little bit, but its not getting the root cause under control.

I agree with i3ai3ydanny.. I would talk about doing a long term inahlor.. A.J is on Flovent and that helps with his coughing.. If he can do Advair ask about that.. Once A.J is old enough to do Advair, I may ask about that one if it helps more. Just how it's given A.J can't take it because it doesn't not work with a aerochamber.

You may need to use multiple meds.. A.J is Albuterol, Flovent, Flonase, Zyrtec, and Singular to help with his allergies and asthma.. The zyrtec seems to help a little but Allergra is twice a day.. So I don't really want to do that.. He's on so much already..

Advair works fine in the aerochamber...that is how we use it. It has an age limit though...
