So if you missed the other post, Danny has had a sinus infection for over a month and 2.5 rounds of antibiotics later he is still getting worse. The doc called this morning and said he wanted Danny to go in for a CBC, a chest x-ray, and a sinus x-ray to try and figure out exactly what we are dealing with and why it isn't going away. Aka...if we are fighting the wrong battle or using the wrong tools we need to fix that. He said that we needed to try to get them done this morning so that he could look at them and let us know what to do by this afternoon. He called back this afternoon with good and bad news. The chest x-ray was normal. No fluid in the lungs. Danny's white count was overall low...5.1 the bottom of normal is 6.0...but that is expected with any infection nonetheless one that has gone on for a month. His neutrophils (the one that drops randomly for no reason) were normal though. Lower end of normal, but still normal. His platelt count was also normal as was his hemoglobin...aka he has enough clotting cells and he isn't anemic. So why the bruising I asked... The answer...the amount of steroids in his daily medication used to control his asthma right now is enough to affect the function of his platelets. He makes enough of them but they aren't working right as a result of all the meds. So that is part of the bad news... the rest of the bad news is that he has a major sinus infection...even after 3.5 straight weeks of antibiotics. One of his maxillary sinuses is FULL of puss and ick, the other is 1/2 full of puss and then swollen shut just from irritation and swelling. All of his other sinus cavities are inflamed, *****, and generally irritated but not pocketed or swollen quite all the way shut. He said if we weren't already starting allergy shots we would be after seeing that. He is going to check him when he comes in at least this Friday and next Friday to make sure he is starting to get better and if he isn't getting better, and if nothing else stabilizing, he will shuffle things around again. He switched Danny's antibiotic to Bactrim which is the same antibiotic I am on for a sinus infection and one of the only ones that works to treat mine. Danny is on exactly 1/2 the dose that I am on though which makes me pretty nervous. We have the same pill and we both take them twice per day but he takes 1/2 twice per day and I take a whole... His doctor is amazing and I am glad that I can trust him because I don't know what to do to help Danny... He said this one should also be gentler on his stomach and shouldn't cause any digestive problems or irritate the ones that are already there... I am really hoping that we start to turn a corner in the next few days...
I hope the new antibiotic works and he starts to feel better very soon. Poor little guy. Glad you got some good news. But bad news is never great . Let us know how is does and when he starts to get better.
