I think I just got AF back after not having it for almost 17 months! Is this even possible?

A little background info on me. I have had a Mirena since October of 09 and had some spotting for a few months after but then after a few months I have had no bleeding at all. I have been breastfeeding pretty much on demand until recently when I started back to work and now I pump and breastfeed about 3 times a day. My doctor said I am probably the 20% that don't get AF back and I was ok with that. So today when I woke up and noticed blood I was really suprised and in addition I know this must be AF because my hormones are everywhere and I just don't feel good. I have been cutting down on breastfeeding since going back to work but it doesn't seem possible that I could have delayed AF for this long! The last time I had AF was in November of 2008 Has anyone else had something similar happen to them?

I just got my first PP AF in January after not having a period since Nov '09. My kids finally decided to sleep through the night and that seemed to be what my body needed. I felt really funny getting my hormones back. I've been nauseous off an on and had all sorts of goofy things this past month. It's entirely possibly that you got AF back.

It happens when it happens for all of us! Count your blessings that it lasted this long...others get it back at 6 weeks even with breastfeeding! Congrats on 17 months with working too! That is awesome!

Also I am noticing that our little ones are basically the same distance apart...mine are just like 2-3 months older. Fun! How do they get along??? Mine fight like crazyyyy!

My period was absent for almost 18 months. I hope to beat the record this time around.

My last AF was May 2008! I too got the Mirena (8 weeks PP). My son will be 2 this month, and I still don't have AF, but I assume it's from the IUD b/c we've been down to only BFing 2x/day since 18 months.

oh yeah, i have the Mirena too. I have had the Mirena twice before this and the first time got some sort of period about 1-1.5 years after insertion (i forget, it was awhile ago!) and the second time 10 months I think.

Definitely possible! :-) It might also have been the combination of the Mirana and the breastfeeding together.
