I can't get Sam to take a cup. He has never had a bottle. It's getting hard because he is cutting molars and incisors and doesn't want to eat, so he wants to nurse all the time. And he is a big 28 pound boy, so he has a big appetite. Does anyone have any tips for how to get him on to a cup a little bit?

DD was able to use them first, those were easier than the regular sippy cups for her to start with.

What is the problem when you try to get him to take the cup? Does he refuse to touch it or does he simply not figure how to use it? I worked for few months with DD before she would drink from the sippy by herself.

he will take water or milk from it by sucking, but he won't swallow. he opens his mouth and it will just drip all down his face and on to his shirt. he wants nothing to do with what comes out of it.

Elliott did that for a LONG time with sippy cups. I tried a straw cup in vain months ago. One day I handed a straw cup to him, and he drank out of it.

One thing that helped back when I went to work and he wouldn't drink anything at all, was letting him drink out of our regular cups....it got him more interested in cups. Overall, it was still a long process though....hope he starts soon for you!

I have the same problem with my DS. He will drink water out of a regular cup though. I have 4 different sippy cups and he hasn't figured out any of them. The straw one is the worst! It's like sucking a really thick milkshake so I don't see how he would figure that out easily.
