i went away for business last week for 3 days/2 nights. when i got home, i tried to put jacob to bed without BFing (we've been down to bedtime nursing only since he turned 2). he was fine! he did ask for "milka" a few times over the weekend, but i told him he was a big boy and didn't need it. he never cried. last night was the most difficult b/c he was over-tired and started to cry when i put him in his crib. all he needed was another cuddle from mom, and he happily went to sleep and slept for 12 hours straight! this is so bittersweet. i knew i would BF for 1 year, and i hoped to make it to 2 years. i did have to gently encourage the weaning process along the way, but i'm proud that he did this on his own. now, how to get him off the bink?
As far as the binky, we never used one, but my one friend had the binkie fairy come and cut all the binkies and it was like pulling a bandaid off she said, LOL. Not sure what i would do in that situation, but her method worked for her
thanks meredith. it doesn't help that when MIL watches jacob (which she's been doing a lot lately since our sitter has been ill), she lets him have the bink all.the.time. b/c her youngest son (now 25) had the bink til he was 5! i try to limit it to the crib and keep it handy when he's pitching a fit. he has a serious oral fixation and would like it all the time. i figure he's only 2. but i will need to do something like the binky fairy or giving the binks to a baby to try to get him off this addiction!
I thought of you yesterday at La Leche, it was a meeting about weaning and there were so many moms with kid's Zoe and Jacob's age. what an accomplishment to go over 2 years! You will figure out the binky one day. I doubt he will go to high school with it
