I found an article in American Baby magazine that said that of the women who breastfeed only 11% continue past the first year. That is a woefully small number!

Do you have family or friends that have breastfed past a year? Is someone else you know/are friends with currently nursing past a year?

My niece was breastfed until she was about 20 months or so. Her Mom was pregnant and didnt really want to tandem nurse so she nudged her to wean abit but she was starting to loose interest already.

My Grandma nursed my Mom till she was two.

Other then that I dont really know of anyone. My friend is currently nursing her 4 month old and has intentions of selfweaning aswell!

One of my best friends is just now weaning her 26 month old...she's pg again or I don't think she'd even rush him now. Other then her...not many girls I know have done extended nursing.

My sister nursed my neice until she was 17 months. She's the only one around here that I know of that nursed past a year.

Actually I had a friend that was tandem nursing her first 2, so that was great to see for me. My mom bf my lil bro a little past a year. There are quite a few families that nurse past one year but have firm beliefs that you absolutely have to wean by 2 years of age. So other than that first friend I am the only one that nurses past 2.
