A hug or a cuddle on the couch goes a long way for us both.

Dh is best cheered up through some distraction -- we go do something fun together, or put some music on that we both enjoy. Validation helps him process and that helps with the bigger things.

For me... um, dh pours me a glass of wine? He's very good about giving soothing touches and is usually good with comforting words too. It isn't something that comes naturally for him, but he knows how much it means to me and he's put a lot of effort into learning what kind of words help me.

I for him: Cook his favourite dish , They say in Holland: the love of a man goes through the stomach LOL, I don't know if that saying is familiar in other countries too. Otherwise I cuddle him and distract him if possible. Otherwise we just talk about it. Although that's more my way than his (he's a man, after all) I dare say it does help him to directly adress whatever is bothering him.
He for me: When it's something minor: wine and a present (I'm not always that easy), cuddling, hugging without saying too much. If it's something big: More wine (just kidding ! ) , then I also prefer to just talk about it (endlessly), and cry on his shoulder. It helps me. I learned from DH that it's not a bad thing to cry and that I don't have to be embarassed for it.

For me, he just holds me. For him, it just depends. Really most of the time he needs cheering up I do too, so it can be hard.

What cheers me up is his singing...OMG its so sweet and gentle. Also just listening and letting me cry or vent.

For him either food or sex...heck both! .
