Gentle parenting is about guiding instead of controlling,
connecting instead of punishing,
and encouraging instead of demanding.
It's about listening, understanding, responding and communicating.

For the most part. The smell of sour expired items makes me want to hurl

But for things like, say sidekicks or crackers or dry goods, I'm ok with a few months leeway.

Mostly, yes. Especially on stuff like milk and eggs...anything in the fridge.

I am weird. I "might" eat something if it's past the expiration date. It really depends on the item and how long. I have always wondered though, how do they (whoever they are) know when something will go bad? I have been doing some reading and some people say it's a scam to get you to buy more.

That doesn't surprise me. I don't eat a lot of dairy so I don't buy a lot, and what I do buy we tend to eat by the expiry date. I rarely find something in the fridge that's over by one or two days...it tends to be weeks when it happens

Milk I go by the smell test...we buy bags, and the expiry date is on the little tag, which gets chucked when I put the bags in the fridge so I never know the expiry date!

I go by sight and smell, mostly. If it looks ok and smells ok and it's not weeks past the expiration date, I'll eat it. I am more careful about feeding stuff to LO, but for me and DH, I don't worry that much.
