during the first 24 months, the intellectual development of a child gradually enables him to do the following;
  • to integrate sensory information
  • to form associations and expectations so that he/she can learn to make sense of the world.
  • to develop object permanence.
  • to learn how to think in an abstract way and how to make deductions.
  • to develop concept of time.

Activity 1

ANNOUNCE THAT YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY. at 3 months old, a bay calms down when he hears his mothers voice, because by then he has learned that the sound of her voice is usually followed by her presence. you can encourage this development now by getting in the habit of announcing that you are on your way when he cries before he can see you.

Thank you *Kiliki* for my beautiful siggy

Activity 2

ENCOURAGE HIM TO SUCK ON HIS HAND. guide his upper arm so that his hand touches his cheek near the side of his mouth. hold it there for awhile and praise him when he manages to get it in his mouth and starts sucking on it.

Activity 3

LET HIM SEE< SMELL AND TOUCH A SPONGE. at bath time put a little baby soap on the sponge. make sure he gets to see, smell and feel the sponge by every now and then holding it in front of her, letting her smell it and rubbing it over her body. this will help her to form an integrated impression of the sponge.

Thank you *Kiliki* for my beautiful siggy
