Hi, my 9 month old son has a cold. I was wondering if there is anything I can do about his stuffy nose beside the saline drops and aspirating. I hate to aspirate his nose because he cries and in my opinion, that just makes it worse. He's having a hard time breathing and because of it, he has a hard time eating and sleeping and he's really unhappy and I don't want him to be unhappy. I thought of giving him a bath but I was told that makes it worse. Any ideas??

It depends on how you do it... I got a new doc for Trinity and he asked me if I new how to suction out her nose.. I told him how I did it and he said that I was doing it wrong.. He said to put 2 drops in one nostril.. Hold the other nostril closed.. Then suction the one out that you put the saline in.. And then wait at least 10 minutes to do the other one.. Doing both nostrils back to back only draws more mucous into the nasal cavity making the baby more stuffy... Also he said use a humidifir in the baby's room..

And I here you on not liking to suction out your baby's nose.. I don't either.. But I would rather have her cry for a little bit than have her suffer because she can't breath

Vicks babyrub & a humidifier, but you really need to aspirate so that the post-nasal drip doesn't irritate his throat-then he'll be even more miserable.

I honestly have no clue as I am still new to all this "mommying" but saw you on here and wanted to say hi. Sorry Edward is sick. I hope he gets to feeling better.

I have been having the same problem. I was told to elevate his mattress so that his head was higher, saline drops, aspirating, vaporizer and my SIL told me to use Johnson's Vapor bath (I got a cheap CVS brand) and that did wonders tonight (for me too!). It's got eucalyptus and menthol so it should help to open him up. Also, I take a hot, hot shower and sit him in the bathroom with me in his bouncy to let the steam help and that seems to work well too. Just make sure he's not overdressed!

That snot sucker thing works wonders. She screams for a minute but as soon as it's done she's so much happier cus she can breath!

Also, I have bath stuff that's eucalyptus and menthol. Showers work because of the steam...

The bath stuff with eucalyptus, steam from a hot shower, and everything else that has been mentioned, are all good suggestions.

I also like to run the humidifier in his room, and add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the water. Other than that, I will give him some Infants Tylenol Cold at bedtime. I try to go without the medicine during the day, but at night I just want him to get a good night's sleep.
