I am a first time mom to a 7 month old boy. Lately, he is making a horrible screeching noise! It is absolutely ear piercing. It's painful! He's not crying, and he's not upset, it seems more like he just wants to hear himself. A lot of times he smiles when he does it, so it's not like he's unhappy. I just can't take it, it's so high pitched! He also did it in church today and in a restaurant several times last night where I got several not so nice looks! I guess I'm just wondering if this is normal or if there are any ways to discourage it.
I think your right that he just want to hear himself or just get attention. Maybe you can try repeating what he is saying or doing so he can understand how it sound, if you want him to lower his voice or lower the pitch try teaching him how by repeating how you want it to be.
I have read before that on that age, they don't know language yet nor know if the sound they are hearing are from them. I have read that repeating the sounds he's making helps the kid to be familiar on the sound that they made. It will also help them on speaking. I think I read about it in babycenter in their milestone blah blah blah-- cant remember though it was helpful for me. Hope it helps!
seems like he has just discovered a new sound he can make! my 7month old does a bit of screeching, but her thing right now is coughing. Dh keeps thinking something is wrong, but as I am with her all day and hear her, I know it is just a new noise she has discovered. I know it will pass...same with your ds's screeching. ride it out and don't care what other people think!
