On the way to the hospital. I'm pretty scared. With the percentages they gave us, we should get 30 eggs, which would be insane and I would probably die of OHSS... But I'm even more afraid of getting nothing...

That's awesome!!!! Will you get the fertilization report tomorrow morning? Are you doing ICSI? Sorry, I'm soooo behind in everybody's journals.

Thank you ladies! We are pretty excited about our 2 dozen eggs. The stats we were given say, on average, that they get eggs from 80% of the follicles (I had 42 follicles, so I was a bit lower, but 33 eggs would have been insane), 75% will be mature, and 70% of those will fertilize. That puts us at 12-13 embryos, which would be fantastic! There will be a message for me by 3:00 with our fert report, as well as the status of transfer. They only do 3 day transfers if we get fewer than 6 embryos, which would be a big disappointment. So we are hopefully looking at a 5 day on Sunday. Assuming we make it to Sunday, they will only transfer one, as long as there is a 'good' or 'excellent' one. If not, we have he option to transfer two, which we would do.

Although the retrieval was very successful, I did have a bit of a rough time with it... We got there around 9:15 for my 10:00 retrieval. They took me right back and I got changed, had my vitals taken, and got our discharge instructions. The nurse anesthetist came in and explained the anesthesia. I had been allowed food a lot later than when I went under general for my polyp removal, so I was figuring it was more of a sedation, which did turn out to be the case. So no breathing tube, but I would still be out and not remember anything. I hate getting IVs put in, but I survived. She did it in the crook of my arm, and gave me a shot of lidocaine beforehand. As soon as that was done, she walked me to the bathroom, and then to the OR. Scott headed back to do his thing at this poitn. The whole prep was pretty quick.

The OR was scary. I've only had surgery once before, and they gave me something to relax me before they took me in that time. This time I was fully aware, and had a bit of panic as they got me all hooked up. I remember getting positioned in the table, with my legs propped up pretty unpleasantly. Sometime during this, the anesthesia was started. I felt it kicking in, and said something about it not working because I was so nervous. I heard something about cleaning me out, then something about giving me more meds, and that's it.

Now, with my previous surgery, I woke up still in the OR, with someone immediately asking me about my pain and nausea, and immediately giving me meds when I said I had both. I felt pretty okay by the time I was back in recovery.
This time, I woke up back in the prep room and I was in A LOT of pain. Horrible cramping in my abdomen and lower back. I was crying and hyperventilating. I couldn't stop shaking, which just made it hurt worse. I rated my pain an 8, and expected some good IV drugs. But no, she brings me 2 Tylenol with codeine tablets, and a heating pad. The pain didn't start to ease at all for at least 20 minutes. At some point during this time, the doctor stopped in and gave us the egg count. He also told us that I seemed to be experiencing more pain than normal... I was trying really hard to breathe deeply and control the hyperventilation - my legs and arms were all tingly, and I was getting 'claw hands'. When I was still rating my pain high, she went to get me something else for it (yay!), but then told me she couldn't give it to me because my blood pressure was too low Eventually, the pain did ease a bit, and my bp came up. I had some saltines and a few sips of Sprite. I was pretty queasy, probably from the pain meds on an empty stomach. When the nurse asked me if I wanted to go to the bathroom, I said no. I honestly didn't feel like I could get up. But she insisted I would feel better once I peed and got home to my own bed. At this point, I really felt like they were rushing me out of there. I didn't feel ready to go, and really thought I would puke before we got home. But, my vitals were okay, I peed, and I ate a cracker, so my time was up. Scott had to push me a long way out to the parking garage, and every little bump felt like my ovaries were banging around inside me The ride home in our very not smooth riding truck was equally unpleasant. I didn't puke though!

I spent the rest of the day in bed with my heating pad, Gatorade, and protein bars. The cramping subsided within a few hours, but I am still very sore when I move. The bloating seems a bit better today, and my weight is the same, so I am hopeful that I've avoided OHSS. Not out of the woods on that yet though. I did decide to stay home from work today, as I still need the pain meds. I'm surprised at how much worse this has been for me than my polyp removal. I didn't take any of my pain meds for that one (and they gave me much better ones!).

I am on cephalexin (antibiotic) and methyprednisolone (steroid) through Friday, and Estrace until further notice. PIO injections started last night and could continue for months. My hip and leg are sore today from last night's shot. I really can't even imagine how bad it will be after a few weeks

If anyone wants to send me good vibes, direct them towards good embryos and no OHSS! I will update when I get the fert report.

Nicholle - no ICSI. DH's sperm is all good. We did consent to them doing it if the sample was unexpectedly bad, but I think they would have told us if they had.
