Thanks ladies!

Surgery????

So DH and I met with RE today to discuss our next steps. RE went over the entire IVF cycle. He states that everything went well, my labs look great, DH's SA are not great, but not bad, I responded well to meds, produced a great number of eggs, they were fertilized, all made it to day 5, 2 blastocysts were transferred and one blastocyst is frozen. So I have unexplained IVF failure.

He mentioned multiple options going forward: immunology testing, DH's sperm being further tested, laproscopy surgery for possible endo, or proceding with an FET or 2nd IVF cycle. So lots of options.

RE recommended that I schedule a laproscopy to see if I have undiagnosed endometriosis. Though I have not symptoms, I could still have it, which causes many women to be infertile. Sadly, the only way to truly diagnose endo is through a laproscopic surgery. It can increase our pregnancy success rates up to 65%, so much so, that IVF may not be necessary (if I have endometriosis). I've had surgery before, so I'm not afraid of surgery, but I'm nervous nonetheless. Nervous that they will find stage IV endo and nervous that they won't find anything and we are back to square 1. One good thing about the surgery is that it will be covered by insurance. So besides a co-pay, I won't have to pay for this procedure out of pocket, unlike IVF. Sadly, the soonest I could have surgery would be the end of April, as they are backed up until then. I have a conference in Cleveland the first available Friday of the surgery, so I will have to likely put off the surgery until the last weekend of April.

So, I'm pretty sure we are going the surgery route for now. Then we'll have to decide on FET vs 2nd IVF. 2nd IVF has a slightly higher success rate than FET, but FET will be less expensive. We only have one frozen embie, so there is always a chance that it won't defrost correctly. So that's a risk that we take.

That's my update for now. I'm sure I'll have more to say about this later.

I understand the desire for the surgery - getting things checked out to see what's going on means that you know exactly what's happening. And that it's covered is a real blessing as well!

I'm sorry you guys would have to wait, but I'm assuming you would keep trying naturally in the mean time and see what happens?

I love that your RE wants to find out what went wrong. So many just push for more IVF's right away. And wouldn't it be lovely to not need ivf again? lol

Glad you got to talk to your doctor and that you have some options! I would want the surgery too - but I understand why you are nervous. So glad it will be covered!!!! So hard that you have to wait until the end of April for it though! I really hope that it will give you the answers you need and maybe you really wont need IVF again!! I will be keeping my Fx for that

I think that you are making a wise choice by having the surgery done. Especially since it is covered by insurance. Hopefully you will get some answers, and it would be wonderful if you didn't even need IVF again! I will keep my fingers crossed for you, Nicholle. I know it is hard to wait, but you are going to be an amazing mom and I have total confidence that you will have a happy, healthy baby.

Thank you ladies!

My biggest fear with waiting is my age. I'm 33, so time is a factor, but if I have the surgery, I will likely be able to do IVF or try naturally that following cycle.

Yeah, the waiting sucks, but I think you've gotta make sure there isn't anything going on that would keep your next try from being successful.

Sounds like you had a good, sensible discussion with your RE. I think I would definately go for surgery too but I understand your frustration with waiting. Would you continue to TTC naturally between now and April?

I'm excited at the possibility that the surgery would give you answers, for me - no answers is way worse than knowing and having plan. You never know, maybe the RE will have a cancellation and you could swoop in and have surgery before end of April?

How are you feeling about it today?

Thanks for the support ladies.

I swear, when it rains it pours!

So, on top of everything that has been going on for the last couple of weeks (failed IVF, have to have surgery--that may or may not help my fertility, surgery won't be scheduled until April, etc....), now sequestration starts. I've known for a very long time that this could happen, and we have kind of prepared for it, but now it looks to be here. Since my DH works for the USAF and is not active military, he will be furloughed one day a week beginning in April until October. This means that one day a week he CAN NOT work and will not receive pay. This equates to about a 20% reduction of his paycheck, or a reduction of $1100 a month in take home pay. So, with $12,000 of IVF debt (did I mention failed IVF debt) on top of this and more ART procedures to come, we are broke! Ok, I'm being a bit dramatic, but it still really sucks!

Financially, we'll be able to pay our bills, but our lifestyle will change. The biggest issue is that we will not be able to go forward with any fertility treatments until the sequestration ends. I will be 34 years old by the time it ends.

I know that I will be fine, but it's just getting to be too much!

I'm so sorry, Nicholle. I wish that you didn't have to deal with this. Financial situations can be very stressful. I really wish that fertility treatments were covered under insurance or that they were at least more affordable. I wish I could give you a big hug. I really think that everything will work out okay. We are here for you!

HUGS I'm so sorry Nicholle.

I don't know a lot about this part of US politics... is there anything that can be done by Congress to reverse the sequester?

I'm sorry for the rant/meltdown ladies. I'm feeling much better now.

Congress could still stop the sequestration, which is what are hoping for. We will be okay even with the sequestration, it will just be tight. Also, we'll find a way to fund ART, so again we'll be okay.

Hung out with some friends tonight which was fun and tomorrow we're throwing a sequestration party. As we live in a military town--and most of us will be affected by the sequestration, we invited our friends and neighbors and we're hosting a "broke *ss" party. Sticking with the theme, we bought Milwaukees best beer, Walmart brand potato chips and Walmart brand swiss cake rolls for the party. We asked all that attend to bring "broke *ss" snacks and beer.

Again, sorry for the rant, it's just been a tough couple of weeks. And as always thanks for the support! XO

A couple posts ago, I mentioned that I gained 5.5 lbs with IVF and that I wanted to lose 9 lbs. Well, for the past week, I got back to my normal routine of working out and eating well. I lost 4 lbs this week! I'm guessing that I was still bloated from IVF meds. So I only have 5 lbs to lose til I reach my goal weight! That really made my day!

Looking forward to tonight's party.
