So after being uber jealous of all of you ladies and your amazing talent I have decided to try my hand at Siggie making. I downloaded Gimp and have spent the day doing the tutorials and I just have to say I had no idea what all went into a siggy! So far i have been doing well with the tutorials and i have downloaded quite a few free kits and to put is nicely...i stink lol I am hoping with time things will get easier Any tips or advice you have would be GREAT!

hmmm...
well first they're good for first tries, we all start out like that.
You're cutouts are rather jagged. That's easily fixed by setting the feather on like 1.
You need to add shadows to the elements and cutouts.
Parts of the stuff is cut off which is easily fixed by just shrinking what you use a little so it all fits into your work area.
Also it looks like you added a shadow on the inside of the stroke you used around your text which you really don't need.
I'm not sure how you do all of that in GIMP though so hopefully one of our GIMP gurus will come in and give you some advice.

I agree with Trish's CC! They are great first tries!
I will add that you need to make sure your siggies are not wider than 600 pixels. Right now they are 700 and 1024 so they're very wide and JM will shrink them for you so text and everything will be a little blurrier and more pixelated. So make sure to resize them to no wider than 600 pixels. (but resize in your program, not in photobucket!!)
And yep, a small shadow behind your elements, text, etc. would be good. Nothing to dark or too big, just a small greyish shadow. With the pool siggy, I would move the chair down a little so it looks like it's standing on the ground, right now it's kinda floating =)
Can't wait to see more of your stuff!
