I know mine, I'm A+. I don't know my hubby's or my older two, but since Logan had such high jaundice they tested his blood type to see if we were incompatible. Logan is O-. I thought that was pretty cool b/c its sorta rare and he can donate to anyone. I really wanna find out what Rileigh and Gavin are.

Actually, this is a very good question! It seems like I've always known mine (O+)....I can't ever remember not knowing it. And Charlie's is the same (they told us at birth). But when we had to apply for our visas to go to China, we had to list all of our blood types, and it turns out my DH DIDN'T know his, and neither did his mom. That totally shocked me, since I just assumed everyone knew theirs. It was surprisingly difficult to find out, too. Go figure.

If Logan is O- then your DH must be O- since you are not

My pedi actually told me that that doesn't mean my DH is. He said that o- can come from a different mix of blood types since mine is A+. He listed like, 4 or 5 different blood types my hubby could be. He said that Logans O allele could have been pulled from my A. I'm not 100% sure how he explained it, but he said that my hubby could be O-, but just b/c Logan was it doesn't mean he is.

This explains it Lab Tests: BLOOD TYPES, o negative blood type, abo blood types
Quote:
Here's the important part from the web site:
"First, let's look at the ABO blood types. Each person receives an A, B, or O gene from each parent. In this system, the A and B genes are co-dominant and the O gene is recessive. Thus, a person whose genetic type is either AA or AO will have blood type A, those with genetic type BB or BO will have blood type B, and only those genetic type OO will have blood type O. This means that a child with type O blood could have parents with type A, type B, or type O blood (but not with type AB). Conversely, if two parents both have type O blood, all their children will have type O blood.
Another medically important blood type is described in the Rh system. These genes were first discovered in the rhesus monkey, hence the designation Rh. The Rh system is actually far more complex than the ABO system in that there are 35 different possibilities that one could inherit from each parent. These, however, are roughly grouped into positive and negative types. In this system the positive are dominant over the negative. If your genetic type is ++ or +-, your blood type will be Rh positive. Only if your genetic type is -- will you be Rh negative. This means that if both parents have Rh+ blood with the +- genes, they could have children who are ++, +-, or --. In other words, their children could be either Rh positive or Rh negative. Children who are Rh negative can have parents who are either Rh positive or Rh negative.
|
Basically the only blood type my husband CAN'T be, is AB and my hubby could still have a postive Rh factor and Logan's negative could be recessive.
Pretty cool, huh? DNA is fun!

I am O- and a "Universal" Donor. I donate blood at the local blood bank every 6 weeks!
That's neat Heather! I am the prime example of that article! My mother has A+ and my dad is O-. Thus I am O-.

Yea, it stated if both parents are o's all kids will be o's. I think thats awesome!!! O+ is the most common, but can only donate to +'s, O- is the second most rare, and they can donate to negatives and positives. Blood typing is SO cool.
