registered my darling Gabriella for French Immersion Kindergarten. She is going to be soooo excited to ride the school bus, and to go to the "big school". I finally convinced DH that this was the best option for her, considering she is already reading in English..... she would just be way too bored in the English Kindergarten, which is just playtime for the most part........ Her pre-k program taught her more in a week than the Kindergarten program teaches in a year!
I know it is almost a year away, but they had us registering today..... they want to figure out numbers and start planning for the numbers coming in. I can't wait till she starts, I think I might even be more excited than her..... but probably not.
SHe will be learning all of her lessons in French, rather than English. They avoid the use of the English Language......... it is a way for children to learn french in a similar way that they learned English as a baby/toddler.

eeeer....... yes? I used to be fluent.... I was an exchange student in high school..... but I fell victim of the "if you don't use it, you loose it", however, I think I will pick it back up as she learns it...........
Nolan will also be in French Immersion Kindergarten, and he can't wait to ride the bus in Sept! We'll have to compare notes

Sounds like a plan Did you have a hard time convincing your DH? Mine thought it was a bad idea because they don't focus on any English grammar until grade 4
That's great, Gwyn! Natasha is in kindergarten, and while it's not French Immersion, she LOVES riding the school bus. I like the "idea" of French Immersion, but being as our kids are already confused to death with one set of grandparents speaking to them in Polish, and another set speaking to them in Russian, I don't really care to have more confusion. But if we were an English-speaking family only, I would consider it.

Yeah, Junior Kindergarten, but we just call it kindergarten here. Both now and next year (Senior Kindergarten). They are both within a school building, so it's not daycare-ish, so we just say kindergarten.

This is the first year Sr Kindergarten is in the school system here...... last year and years prior, parents had to pay for Kindergarten and it was at Daycares. So now, the daycares only have PreK.......... PEI is still very much like Little House on the Prairie!
lol, I see. We have daycares here which are centres for ages, say 2.5-5 or even birth-5 years. There is one by my place, and it's payable. They have gov't assistance programs available, but it's daycare.
Natasha's kindergarten is within a school building which is from JK (age 4) through grade 8. It follows the school year, and they are in a classroom. It's both play-based (there are toys), and work-based - they learn letters, numbers, etc. go to the library, have recess, and so on. And it's FREE. It's 1/2 day 8:30-11:30 but they are doing full-day programs in some schools which I don't care for I like 1/2 day.

That is really neat! Ya, we pay $52 a week for Gabriella to be in PreK.... next year though, Kindergarten will be free, in the school......... well, I guess our taxes pay for it, eh?
We have a pre-k here as well. Because Noah's birthday falls the 4 days after the cut off we can take advantage of the program next year. We plan on sending him in the morning to the pre-k program, and the afternoon to the preschool program he's in now, in order to aid him with transitioning to the school/full days. (Kindergarten is full day here).
