We watch the news when the kids aren't around typically. In the winter we usually have to watch now for cancelled school and road reports so they see/hear that. If they do violence reports and such I usually try to switch it quick, since they show some really awful pics now on the news. Not like when I was growing up, you didn't see pics of murder scenes, etc.
I don't really have a favorite segment I don't think, I find most of the things they cover are depressing and they don't cover many positive things. I would watch it more if they did cover some "good" stories.
Well.... If we still lived in Texas (we were in Sugarland, outside of Houston) I would NEVER EVER EVER let my kids watch the news, because there was rarely any good news! News was depressing! Here, the kids watch the news..... it is rare to here of even a gun shot, on the news, because it just does not happen here.... (except for 2 nights ago, but it is VERY rare!).
We watch the news on week nights... not on the weekend, because there is no local news here on the weekend.
My favorite segment is when they interview youth athletes! I think it is awesome that the kids in our community get the spotlight!
We never watch the news. If the tv is on its typically tuned to a cartoon I honestly don't care about the news but DH is addicted to checking it online. On the weekends when we're home he must go on every hour to see if anything new pops up. Soooo annoying!

We don't really watch the news. Memphis' news is nothing but depressing and every time John watches it he starts bringing up the whole "Oh we're going to move up to New England!" argument. The boys are NOT allowed to watch the news.
