I'm looking for some new reading material for my 1st grader. She's been reading Junie B Jones and the Rainbow Fairies series, but I'm looking for some others to hold her interest.

If she's reading those books on her own:

Flat Stanley
Mercy Watson
Henry & Mudge (lower level but my firsties loved them)
Frog & Toad
Ready Freddy Stories
Mr. Putter & Tabby

Cam Jansen & Magic Tree House are a little trickier to follow.

Thank you for the suggestions! Yes, she's reading them on her own (for the most part). She'll ask me to help her with some words, but knows the majority.

Awesome job to her then!! Those are typically.. end of 2nd grade/beginning of 3rd books! I use them as Read Alouds bc my firsties typically can't read them on their own. Smart cookie you have there!

Conner qualified for the accelerated reading program in Kindergarten last year, which means he reads on a 3rd grade level.....too bad he won't read. He says he doesn't like to

What a great reader you have, and those suggestions are great. My girl just finished 1st grade and loves to read the children's books about cat and dog breeds. The non-fiction sections of the children's library here has quite a selection she's going through. Also, Katie Kazoo Switcheroo is a fun choice.
