What grade is your child in, and how much homework do they normally have?

Do you have them do homework as soon as they get home, later in the evening, or whenever they choose?

Do you sit down to help them, or do you encourage them to work on their own?

My kindergartner has a packet of homework each week that usually includes a journal entry or some kind of writing practice, a math sheet, and then other activities to check off like counting by 2's or reading and having me ask her various comprehension questions, etc. She does the whole thing on Tuesday evenings while we're at her sister's acting class. It usually takes her about 10-15 minutes, aside from reading every night, which she'd do anyway. I read the directions along with her to make sure she understands what she needs to do, then she does it.

My 4th grader has about 15 minutes of homework each night. She'll usually have two spelling pages and two math pages, and she's supposed to do one each night, handing it in on Friday. She also has spelling words to study, timed math tests to study for, and various other tests throughout the year. She usually does it later in the afternoon, but before dinner. On the days her sister has dance, she takes it with us and does it there. She does it independently, unless it's studying for a test, in which case I will quiz her to make sure she knows the material. I do check her written work when she's finished, though.

What grade is your child in, and how much homework do they normally have? 6th & Kindg. Arianna gets some in each subject regulary M-F as well as projects. Natalie gets work M-Th here and there.

Do you have them do homework as soon as they get home, later in the evening, or whenever they choose? Yes with their Nana (she gets them from school).

Do you sit down to help them, or do you encourage them to work on their own?
Ari does her own. Nat does what she can and then I'll sit down with her once I'm home and review.

Beth is in first grade and Matt is in kindergarten and they each about 10-15 minutes a night. Plus they are supposed to read for 20 minutes each night.

I give them a snack when they get home, and then they do homework right away.

Beth can do hers all on her own...I just look it over when she is done. I have to sit with Matt...he can't get his done without help. I've been trying to get him to be a little more independent, but he has trouble.

What grade is your child in, and how much homework do they normally have? My son's in 4th grade. He has around 70 minutes of homework each night (Monday through Thursday).

Do you have them do homework as soon as they get home, later in the evening, or whenever they choose? He is allowed to have snack, but then his homework must get done immediately. He has other things going on typically in the evenings and homework must be done first.

Do you sit down to help them, or do you encourage them to work on their own? He works on his own because he doesn't need any help.

What grade is your child in, and how much homework do they normally have? Hilarie's in 2nd & gets about 15min per night, Christina & Landon are in 3rd & get about 30-45min per night, Dylan & Mya are in 4th, Emily & Austin are in 6th & they all get about an hour per night. Thankfully the teachers try not to send any homework home on Fridays & let the kids enjoy the weekends.

Do you have them do homework as soon as they get home, later in the evening, or whenever they choose?I'm not too picky about when it's done but it all has to be done & reviewed by either myself or my DH before they go to bed. But for the most part it's done before we have dinner.

Do you sit down to help them, or do you encourage them to work on their own?We encourage them to work on their own, but we are always available to help when they need it.

Jaidyn's in primary 1 (equivalent to kindergarten) and has about 10 minutes worth each night. Lucas is in primary 7 (equivalent to 6th grade I think!) and gets around 20 minutes worth each night

What grade is your child in, and how much homework do they normally have?Joe is in 5th, he gets 2 pages of math, 2 pages of science and 2 pages of english a night. It takes him about 45-an hour to finish. Jayden (k) gets a packet he has a week to do with about 20 pages but they're easy and he can do the whole packet in about 10 minutes.
Do you have them do homework as soon as they get home, later in the evening, or whenever they choose? As long as it's done before dinner, that's my only rule.
Do you sit down to help them, or do you encourage them to work on their own? They work on their own unless they need help.

My kindergartener gets a packet sent home on Mondays which has 2 homework assignments for Monday-Thursday nights. He doesn't normally have homework over the weekends.
My 3rd grader usually only has homework Tues, Wed, and Thur.
My 4th grader seems to have less homework, usually once or twice a week but a lot more at home projects and reports due each month.
We do homework as soon as we get home, which isn't until 6pm or 8:30pm if we have football or wrestling practice. I make sure they understand what they are doing, let them do it themselves and then check it when they're done or help if they have any problems.
All of them also have to either read or do Math problems for 20 minutes each night.

What grade is your child in, and how much homework do they normally have? Sean doesn't have a grade level since he's in a Montessori school. If he was in a traditional school, he'd be in 3rd grade.

Do you have them do homework as soon as they get home, later in the evening, or whenever they choose? One of many things Montessori does different is they don't send homework home. But when he was in a traditional school, he did his homework as soon as he got home before he was allowed to do anything else. With both he and I having ADHD, as well as busy schedules with church and soccer most of the year, we want to make sure it isn't forgotten.

Do you sit down to help them, or do you encourage them to work on their own? Sean is smarter than I am. He almost never needs help. That's part of why he's no longer in a traditional school. He was getting straight A's without even needing to think. In DH & I's mind, that was in no way helpful to Sean. So we homeschooled for a year with more difficult course work. That didn't suit Sean & I's personalities so now he's in Montessori where the children learn on their own level. He's doing amazing there!

My grade 1 girl has a (small) book to read every night, my grade 3 girl only has homework occasionally, and my grade 5 girl has projects she works on at home.

My kids get to pick on their own when they choose to do their homework. As long as they get it done before bedtime it doesn't matter to me when they do it. One of mine likes to do it as soon as she gets home so she's done with it, a few others need a bit of time to have a snack and unwind. If they don't, they just get frustrated and tense and it ends up taking much longer than it needs to. I will sit with my youngest to see if she's reading the words right, the rest do it on their own. I help if they have a question or quiz them if they ask but that's about all.

Amber is in 3rd grade and she has about 45 min a night of homework. She normally has to study for spelling and math then she has a couple worksheets/pages to do out of her math text..then also her required 20 min of reading.

She's in 1st grade and has homework Monday-Thursday. Spelling every night (just reviewing the words for the test on Friday) and then usually one or two worksheets (math and/or grammar) each night. We get a homework schedule on Monday that lists exactly what homework they'll have for the week, the parents sign it and send it back to school each day.

I usually do homework right after school, I'll give her a snack first and then we'll work on homework. I always sit down with her and observe/ask questions to try to challenge her a little bit more, because her homework is not challenging at all.

Lily is in 2nd grade, she usually has a math assignment and a reading/spelling assignment. I encourage her to do, then I go over it and we fix the mistakes together.

At this point the only homework Gaby brings home is a reading book, and her 'frequent use' spelling words to learn (I, am, a, in, at, Mum, Dad, come, came etc etc etc)... we try to do them as soon as she gets home from school

What grade is your child in, and how much homework do they normally have?

Mariah is in 8th grade and she usually gets her homework done at school. George is in 5th grade and typically has about an hour worth of homework per night. Shania is in 4th grade and she usually has about 30 minutes of homework per night.

Do you have them do homework as soon as they get home, later in the evening, or whenever they choose?

My children usually do their homework about an hour or so after getting home from school.

Do you sit down to help them, or do you encourage them to work on their own?

I do encourage them to do their homework on their own. I make sure they understand how to complete the work, and I also check it when they are finished.

What grade is your child in, and how much homework do they normally have?Meagan's in 10th. She has anywhere from 1-3 hours a day of homework but she can usually finish most of it at school.
Abbey's in 8th. She gets about 1 or 2 hours a day.
Kayla's in 3rd grade. She usually gets 15 minutes of math, 10 minutes of writing/grammar practice, and 10-20 minutes of science or social studies. Plus spelling review and 30 minutes of reading. (about an hour total)
Ellie's in Kindergarten. She gets reading practice every day and 2 or 3 days a week she gets a game or project to work on at home.

Do you have them do homework as soon as they get home, later in the evening, or whenever they choose? It depends on the day and what else is going on. Most days I expect it to be done before dinner (except for Kayla's reading which she does before bed).

Do you sit down to help them, or do you encourage them to work on their own? Ellie's games and projects always require help from someone but it's not always me. Other than that, I always check in with them to see if they need help but expect them to do the work on their own.
