As I'm suspecting Brendan having lice as he had severe itching that started yesterday then got worse. When I was looking at him I thought I saw something black near the scalp move quickly

Usually you see the nits more so than the bugs. I would first take him to the pediatrician or have the school nurse check to confirm as treating lice is difficult at best.

You will need to get the shampoo from the drug store, the comb to comb the nits out, then treat your home as well (bedding, stuffed animals, etc). Here's a good link from the CDC:

uugghhh!! Lice! I remember my when I was little my Mom treating my sisters and I. She would have to do all 3 of us every time one of us had any. We would sit in the bathtub with the shampoo in our hair. Afterwards we would eat pizza, as my Mom was too pooped to cook after dealing with us!

Glad it wasn't lice! That's one of my biggest fears! I don't do bugs well, let alone bugs on the body.
