Are you facebook friends or real life friends with your child's teacher or any other staff at your child's school?

Not his current one. He just started last week, and I don't even really know her. I have no clue what her first name is!

But, I was friends with his 1st and 2nd grade teachers. I loved it, because I felt more involved, because I could just shoot them a PM on FB if I had questions, etc. His 1st grade teacher would PM me if she had concerns, etc. And she felt more connected, because she could see what kinds of things he was doing at home, sports, etc. Her and I have the same sense of humor, and are STILL friends on FB, and are always posting to each other, sharing funny pics to each other, etc. She would also post pics of him doing fun projects in class to my timeline. (she had my permission, and didn't show other kids)

His 2nd grade teacher wasn't as active, but we still sent PMs about stuff, and she'd comment on some pics and stuff.

I know several teachers and staff members as we've been with the elementary school for the past ten years. The only one I am FB friends with and have ever really socialized outside of school with is the nurse

I can't find his current teacher on FB. Isn't it like crossing a line that shouldn't be crossed. Don't teachers have to maintain and certain amount of privacy?

there are several teachers at our elementary school that are on FB. I see them as "someone you may know" or on other friends pages

I get what you're saying. I'm sure it's a personal choice for them, and if they want to be private from their students, they either won't do FB, or not friend any of the parents. With Parker's last 2 teachers, I loved it. We communicated all the time (private stuff in PMs) but I felt more connected to them. One I'm still friends with.

But, if a teacher doesn't want to be "friends", I can totally understand it too. The two I'm friends with seem to like it. I think in both cases though, we talked about it in person first. Like, "Hey, find me on FB" type of thing. I didn't request to be their friends, because I didn't want to pry.
