When do you have yours do their homework? Right when they get home, or do you wait some?

If there's a homework, we do it together after her class. Then if everything's done, she's free to do whatever she wants to do -- play with her playmates, toys and pets.

I let my kids choose for themselves. As long as it gets done before bedtime it doesn't matter to me.

Some like to do it as soon as they get home to get it done and over with, and others need a little time to unwind first and then are much more productive.

I've always had them do their homework as soon as they get home. But, Riley and I have been fighting through homework lately. So, I've been letting him play a little while, then we do the homework. It has worked for us. Well, that is, until Thursday, when we were doing homework at 9 because we both forgot!! Yikes!

Ryan seems to need a decompression time when he gets home. I give him about 20 minutes to eat a snack and just veg. Then we do reading or sight words. Leslie

While I think its important for kids to have some downtime when they get home, its also important to teach them the ability to manage their time.

Not immediately. They wash up once they get home, have a snack or something and then take what we call a 'power nap' for an hour or so. And then, it's homework and study time.

I have them do it right away. It's nice to get it out of the way early on, and with three in school I like to go through all their bags, check papers, etc. at the same time.
