I can, but we don't. It's not economical for us, since we don't have the space to store/freeze things so they spoil before we can use them all.

I do make bread, but only for specialty things, not for daily consumption

I have made bread before, and do for specialty things like Ashley. But my Bitty has a dairy sensitivity and it's looking like I have to get rid of ALL dairy, since she's still congested and all obvious forms have been out of my diet for a over a month now. Store-bought bread has sodium or calcium stearoyl lactylate, so it looks like I'm going to have to make bread if I want to get rid of dairy completely.

as for sauces...I do sometimes. Ranch dressing I get from Sam's Club though. It's cheaper than buying cream or buttermilk to make it.

Hmm I hadn't thought of bread as a source of dairy Brittanie.. I wonder if it did 18 years ago since Mom had to cut out dairy cause of my baby brother and she pretty much lived on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.... my mom couldn't have made bread if her life depended on it though. lol.

Dairy is sneaky, it's in EVERYTHING! Actually, a lot of bread recipes call for butter and/or milk, so I wasn't so surprised. Most baked goods do. But if I make them myself I can substitute things.

I do make breads often, but not usually sauce or dressing. Usually I can get them cheaper premade with coupons. I DO use them differently. I like to marinade things in dressing, or make my own sauces out of other things, usually around a veggie puree

I don't make anything of my own.....I'm like Ashley though, I just don't have the space. I've got every intention of when we move into our own home I will start doing certain things though.

I make a lot of my own sauces and dressings. Sometimes I make improved sauces or dressings by adding to pre-made stuff. Pre-made is better than years before, but it can still make a good base for even better tasting home made like things.

I make as much from scratch as possible, partially because I can and I have the time and partially because I have a severe peanut allergy and frankly it's kind of disgusting how much processed food is cross-contaminated. It's often a necessity, especially for things like ice cream or cakes.

Sauces were my favourite thing to make in culinary school, so I try to make my own as often as possible. Things like tomato sauces I just buy pre-made and season it to give it some extra flavour. I make vinaigrettes of my own, too, but dh has more of a flair for them than I do, in all honesty.

I have made my own breads before but it's been a long time. I wouldn't mind getting back into it, though.
