This, exactly. I still enjoy baking (the last thing I made was a cake for my oldest dsd last week -- it was a boxed recipe because I was short on time, but I did find time to make real buttercream icing at least

) and I try to do it often, but I do love that I can be more freewheeling when I cook. I don't really work off of recipes (I skim them for technical instructions I may be forgetting, mostly) when I cook, but everything in a baking recipe is there to serve a purpose and there isn't a lot of room for error.
I'm comfortable making muffins, cakes, cheesecakes, most cookies, etc. I haven't made my own bread since culinary school but I would like to get back into it.
