two batches of chocolate chunk cookies. tasted like i'd made them with ocean water. I used the sugar from the jar marked "sugar."
Went to make a cup of coffee 2 weeks later... salt water. Someone had filled the middle of the sugar jar with salt by accident. And to make it better, sugar was in the salt jar!
Ashley = not impressed!

I haven't had many recently other the gluten free baking. When I was a kid I accidentally used tbsp of baking soda and powder instead of tsp. Also I baked a cake when I was a kid and put it to cool on next to the open screened window, a squirrel chewed through my screen and ate my cake There were little squirrel prints all over the top.

Other than burning a few things now and then, I haven't recently had a big oops that I can think of. I think my biggest blunders were some bread I was making for a 4-H project that was completely raw in the middle and burnt on the outside and the time I went to make frosting and accidentally used regular sugar instead of powdered sugar....ended up making a lot of sugar cookies with that oops!

As a teen some friends and I decided to bake cookies. We goofed and mixed up recipes. Realized it half way through and tried to fix it but they turned out awful!

I am sure that there are more recent stories, but I'm drawing a blank so I'll go with this one. When I was 14, a friend and I decided to bake cookies. It was a bagged mix and all we had to add was an egg and some butter. Well the recipe said, "1 stick of butter". We read it, looked at the picture and, because her mom didn't buy divided butter but a solid pound all in one piece... decided to chuck the whole thing. Needless to say, there were not very good and her mom, when she came home from wherever she had been, was not impressed that we had used the entire pound of butter she had just bought.

that sounds like something I'd have done! Butter was a no no in our house, mom baked with Margarine.. she still gags knowing I use only butter in the house..

You should tell her that margarine is one atom away from plastic (yes, really) and if it's left out overnight even the bugs won't come eat it. It's also grey/white naturally and the yellow colour is dye to make it look less gross. It also doesn't have any less calories than butter, so I've never understood the draw. My dad loves margarine too.

I know. I convinced my grandmother to switch back to butter even though they both have cholesterol issues.. and lo and behold.. with no other diet changes, and no med change, they both dropped significantly. Doctor told them that the less crap they eat, the better their numbers will look. My grandfather did a happy dance!
I didn't like butter, I still don't care much for the taste.. but it's much milder than any butter flavor they can put in margarine.
Now if I could only find a good spreadable butter....
I'm really enjoying choosing foods that have as few ingredients as possible. And one day I will really enjoy making things like bread from scratch so I know what goes into it. I'm even going to try and make homemade fruit snacks for Reme (thank you Pinterest).. heck if I plant an apple tree and some berry bushes I can even limit the extra crap on the food to start with.
DH says I'm getting a full time gardening job with staff (the kids) with the ideas I have. But he loves it, because after the first year or two, it's pretty much just the cost of the seeds and new lids for the mason jars. Maybe I'll even get enough extra to sell some canned goods for profit

Gluten free pasta. I severely over-cooked it and it turned into this paste that hardened in the pot and I couldnt get it out.
Whole pot had to go in the bin.

I don't make to many mistakes these days, but I do remember when I was a teenager, making my first batch of brownies from a box.. I forgot to add the egg.. they were so flat looking. Ugh..
also a good butter is Olivio.. I love the stuff. doesn't taste like the butter I'm used too, but it's good for you.
