We're mostly good about sticking to the list. Snacks are the things that don't usually get written down, and that's because a lot of times we don't really know what we want to snack on until we're there.
I only make a lists for basics and my "meals" for the week. Often I'll see something I want more than something else so I swap it out.
My snacks are usually done on the fly though. I could say i want grapes.. and get there and they're awful.. so I just browse the store for what I want.

When I go alone, I'm good about sticking to a list. When we go together (which we do most often), we end up with more. We went to Costco the other day with a list of five things. Got three of the five but left with eight.
