I am alway curious how much other people pay for basic foods... So how much is a gallon of milk? What kind is it and where would you buy it?

We buy by the half gallon - we just don't drink enough milk to warrant a gallon. We pay $3.00 per half gallon, and we buy it from the farmer's market. It's delicious and blows any store bought milk out of the water (in addition to being free of hormones/antibiotics). Kroger's generic brand milk is $2.00 per half gallon and tends to go bad before the sell by date, so we feel that the extra dollar and longer shelf life (the farmer told us that the milk is usually less than 48 hours when it gets to the market) are worth it. The organic milk brands at the grocery store cost more than the farmer's market too.
