Luke loves to sit on the potty. He even takes a sheet of toilet paper, pats his pee pee with it, and puts it in the potty. But he won't pee on the potty at all, and for that matter as soon as he gets off the potty he wants to take a bath. Every time. The kids loves water, and of course the potty is next to the tub. Tomorrow I'm going to try using the bathroom that doesn't have a tub, and see if it goes better. But he gets off the potty and then pees on the floor, lol.
I don't think he's ready for potty training yet, which makes me very sad. I don't want to push it on him of course, but I really hope he's not one of those kids that waits until he's 3 to figure it out. I really don't want THREE in diapers.

Kes, I'm actually glad to hear that someone besides Xander in this PR isn't potty trained yet.
I have to be honest- I have no idea how to potty train, and I haven't gotten around to reading about it yet. We bought a potty, but X really only likes to play with it. He'll sit on it, but he's never gone potty on it.
I guess I really need to start reading up on that. Lord knows I have tons of free time

Austin isnt trained yet either. He make him sit on his baby potty for 10 minutes each evening. Just started that this week. He has peed once so far in it. He loves to sit on it, but that's about it!! I really dont know what to do besides just let him keep sitting on it all the time & hopefully it will come naturally when he's 100% ready???? We even have a potty chair at work now as of today.LoL.
Oh, he HATES pull ups. But I have started making him wear them during the day to show him how to wear underwear like daddy does...LoL

Adriana is the same way.. I'm not to worried about it.. Adriana sits on the potty and likes to wipe and pretend to flush, but I know in time she'll figure out what to do.. She'll be potty trained when she's ready..

I don't believe in 'readiness'- I think if you wait until they're 'ready', you'll be waiting for a VERY long time because they just get too used to peeing in diapers.
At the same time, I don't believe in forcing it on a child either.
We started out making potty time fun for Holden, just going after meals.. and sitting there until he didn't want to sit there anymore. We took books, toys, whatever he needed. It took a while for him to take his first pee on the potty but when he did we made a HUGE deal out of it, and then it became more frequent. When he seemed to get the idea, we upped the amount of times per day he went to the bathroom.
Wasn't until we found out we were preggo that we decided to really get on board with PTing and then really it only took a few months of hardcore training.
At the same time, IF you do train him now, there is a VERY strong chance that when the new baby comes he will regress. Newly PTed kids, even kids who have been PTed for a year revert and start pissing their pants on a regular basis (Holden did for a while, now he really only pisses his bed at night. grr)
Not saying NOT to potty train because of that, but just to be aware because it's very frustrating to feel like all your work has been undone so quickly.

That sounds exactly like M. I swear our kids are clones of eachother. They seem to be doing the exact things at the same time. M's so not ready either. He won't pee on the toilet. The two times i got him to pee he thought he was trouble and started crying

I definitely believe in readiness. There is an actual physical change that occurs that makes it possible for a child to control the muscles in that area so that they can make themselves go potty or not. (Now wasn't that a scientific explanation? ) I majored in Child Development in college and in one of my classes we learned about it...But they explained it a lot better than I did.
I think what you are doing is perfectly fine. Rushing a child into something they aren't ready for is more damaging than waiting a little longer. My pediatrician told me that boys are usually not completely potty trained until the 3 or 4 range.
Caleb does the same thing though, he loves to sit on the potty, wipe, flush the toilet, etc., but he doesn't actually "go" in the toilet. Oh well....It's not like they'll go to college in diapers, right???

What you are doing, I would consider pre potty training. Just try to talk to him about it and let him know that this is what big kids/mommies & daddies do as part of growing up. A few books about potty training might help too. Ally really liked those at first.
We've been working on it for what seems like forever and with our temperaments it's been difficult to keep going. She knows pee/poop goes in the potty, but she doesn't like to take the time to stop and go!! I absolutely know for a fact she can hold it because she does when she's diaper-free. In a diaper/undies, she could careless so I really don't know where I'm going with this method.

If I let Luke run around diaperless he just pees on the floor. Every time I catch him I get excited and say "yay peepee!" and run him to the potty (in a fun way). It's my attempt to teach him that THAT right there (pee pee) goes in the potty. It's not working, lol. Fortunately we have tile floor in every room but the bedrooms, so I just close all the doors and keep an eye on him. I spend a lot of time mopping, lol.
I know he'll do it when he's ready to. I do believe in a certain level of readiness, but currently he doesn't try to control those muscles he just pees whenever, so I dunno if he's even remotely ready.
The regression factor is why we didn't bother before Lauren was here. I was going to start at 18 months with the pre-potty stuff, but there was no point.
I've got about 8 months to potty train him, or I'm gonna be in serious diaper country.

Ruan and Natasha aren't ready and I'm not pushing them. We have an insert toilet seat and they have been asking to sit on it. Neither of them have managed to actually do anything on the toilet. Although they push till they fart...lol...
With my older two, I think we started at about 2 1/2, so I'm in no rush. Can't wait for the extra money when we don't have to buy 260 nappies every 6 weeks though!

Joshua isn't potty trained either. He only tells me after he does a wee or a poo. So I'm hoping this may be a start. I do keep on asking him if he wants to do his business on the toilet but he always says no. So I think I might just wait a little longer, or even leave him without a nappy for a few hours a day when we are at home and see what he does. I hope I at least get him trained before my baby is due which will be in June.
