Study: UV Rays for Fibromyalgia Pain
Tuesday January 20, 2009
NEWSBRIEF: Ultraviolet light may help alleviate fibromyalgia pain, according to a study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
Researchers used tanning beds to expose fibromyalgia patients to UV light 3 times a day for 6 weeks. The control group was exposed to non-UV light. Participants then reported on their pain levels and mood.
Researchers concluded that the UV group showed some improvement in pain, well-being and relaxation compared to the non-UV group.
This was a small preliminary study and researchers say this area of treatment needs to be explored further to determine whether it's a viable treatment option.
