Hello my name is Rachel and I am 21. I want to TTC #1 in the end of 2009 but I am scared to do that because I got diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 6 months after I got married. I am still on my immunosupressant Imuran but I am in the process of tapering off of that and staying on another medication for my maintenece drug. How many of you have needed to have your children while on medication? I really want healthy babies. I guess that is why I want to wait so long. Are flare ups easier to have while pregnant? I guess that I am just new to this now that I am considering children.

Hello and welcome. I have crohn's and was diagnosed when I was 21. I had my first child at age 26. I was med free when I got pregnant and had very little problems with each pregnancy. I would talk to your ob and see what they think. I know there are some meds that you can take while pregnant because when I was in my last month with Jeanne I had a few problems and they were able to give me something for it that would hurt the baby.

Also I was told by the ER doctor when I was first diagnosed with the crohn's that I would never have children. Little did he know....I went on to have four healthy children and five pregnancies and my miscarriage was not related to the crohns. My ob had a whole different attitude toward my pregnancies. I was watched closely but didn't have any problems. Actually my crohn's didn't flare up until after the pregnancies.
