If you've had a pregnancy, successful or not, after an Immune Disease diagnosis, how was it different?

More visits? Specialists? More blood tests?

We hope to (eventually) have another pregnancy after my DX and I'm just curious as to how it was different.

Thanks.

We will TTC again in May 2010.
In the meantime: I'm studying & balancing the plethora of drugs I take everyday.

Hello,
After being on the thyroid board from searching I finally realized that there is more to that section and found the Auto Immine section so here I am.

I have Graves Disease. I was DX in 2001. I had the flu in November of 2000 and 3months later the flu virus triggered the auto immune part to finally show up. In Feb 2001 I had a TSH level of 0.01 but no other issues with T3 Or T4. I was considered Graves diseaes mild case. I wont go into details and bore you with the idiots but I did find a dr. who treated me with drugs. I saw an RE as well and did IUI and clomid AFTER I was on the medicine for a few months and got pregnant the first IUI. Once pregnant I stayed on the drugs (thyroid drugs) but had to go off of them because I was going to high and dr. didn't want me to misscarry. I did have tests during that time every 6 weeks to make sure my levels were fine and they stayed fine even after I gave birth. AND even long enough to have another baby with IUI and GonalF injections and I too was tested during that time but not as much. If I had shown signs of coming out of my "remission" they called it they would have tested more often. It wasn't until after I had that delivery that I was sick with a virus and came out of remission into a thyroid storm. I went back on meds and back into remission. again tested every 6 weeks to make sure. We were planning another baby and were going to see the RE again because the diseaes makes my egg poor quality well since I was in remission for 7months I guess my eggs got stronger because I fell pregnant on my own. I was tested during that time every two months because they wanted to make sure the baby was helping me keep up my levels and yes baby was. I was fine!!!!

I was poked and proded but it was worth it!!

what is dx? are you infertile due to it?

Not sure if I have the same disease but I sure hope to be of some support even if just a hug.

When I was pg with DD#1, I had not yet been dx with rheumatoid arthritis. I wasn't actually dx until June 2007, and became pregnant October 2007.... though I had RA symptoms for about 5 years prior to the dx. So, for me, this pregnancy is definitely different. Every time I go to the OB, I go to my rheumatologist the same day. They are trying to work together and make my pregnancy as easy for me as possible. It is a hassle though to go to the two different doctors on the same day, and is definitely costing us more money. I've read that sometimes RA symptoms fade during pregnancy, but that hasn't been the case for me. And, I also have spondlyo-arthritis which is definitely affecting me in a very negative way during this pregnancy. Since I was only dx a few short months before I became pregnant, we're still in the middle of trying to find a good treatment for me... and had to basically hault that search until pregnancy is over. My rheumatologist also wants to run some more tests/xrays.... but has to wait until I deliver to be safe. He's trying to keep me as comfortable as possible, I'm currently using Lidocain patches and I have a script for prednisone, but I haven't taken it yet during pregnancy... too scared. I've dealt with this pain for the past 5+ years, and I figured I could "deal" with it for a few more months until I deliver before pumping myself full of medication. I did take the prednisone for 12 days (4 pills/day x 3 days, 3 pills/day x 3 days, 2 pills/day x 3 days, 1 pill/day x 3 days) before I got pregnant and it seemed to help by day #3... and lasted about 3 months before all symptoms came back.

Now I'm worried about bfing.... will I be able to breastfeed if I need to take certain medications to keep myself healthy and feeling good? I know I can't possibly take care of a newborn and a 3 year old if I am unable to get up out of the chair, couch, or bed.

I was dx with AS the month I got preggo with my daughter. I didn't see my Rheumy while I was pregnant, my OB treated me. I did fine until I got really big, then I had to take pain meds.

Hi, I havent posted here in a very long time, but I wanted to post my experience w/pregnancy and ANA. My 3rd pregnancy was after I had been DX'd and my pregnancy was awesome, my body gave itself a break, I stopped losing my hair & my joints were'nt bothering me. I did have to see a Peri 2x because of the plaquinil, my Doc just wanted to make sure the baby was growing ok, so I had a 2D sono and then I only had to see the peri one more time after that, for another sono.

That is awesome! My AS went into remission the first 2 trimesters I was pregnant, but then came back at the worst point, when I was huge!
