Anyone using software to monitor home PC activity? I just installed Family Cyber Alert program to help me keep an occasional eye on what my kids are up to online. There are plenty of ways a kid today can find some kind of trouble online, and I just think this tool will help to give me more of a clue as to what I need to be talking with them about to teach them to use the Internet more safely and responsibly.

Curious what other user experiences are - I'm still debating whether to let them know I have the software, I see pros and cons on both sides really.

Hi and welcome to the board!

I do not use any type of software specific to monitoring where David goes on the net, but I do have all passwords and such and check the history on a regular basis. He doesn't really get on the computer much at all, but does get on the net via his ipod touch. He has to dock it at night when he goes to bed and I will check it then. Also he is not allowed to clear his history

No I do not. My daughter uses my computer here and I monitor what she's doing and where she's going frequently.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought I'd report back that I decided to let me kids know that I would be occasionally monitoring their online activity using this software. I'm also happy to report that I feel it has supported my objectives well - I feel better having this added visibility on what they're getting into (and not getting into), plus it has all enabled more open conversations about it all, which I feel has allowed me to truly connect with them regarding my concerns , to better guide them to smart and safe online activity.

Next up is their cellphone use - haha

Greyson is only allowed to use KidZui which is a made for kids browser, and is not allowed to use Internet Explorer or Mozilla. KidZui sends me a weekly report by email with a list of all of the websites he's visited. KidZui only allows them to go to kid friendly websites, so they can't look up stuff we don't want him to. He is also only allowed to be online when we are in the room, and my husband checks his computer regularly for activity. He has his own computer, and both of our computers are password locked when not in use by us.
