Do you use grounding as a punishment for your preteen/teen? What do you do?

Sure do. We take things away, don't allow them to go out with friends. Things along that line.

grounding just doesn't seem to work for David. The only thing that seems to make an impact on him is writing sentences

She looses privileges, she hasn't yet needed to be grounded but I will try it when needed.

We usually will take away all electronic devices (phone, computer, ipod, tv) and restrict where she can go. We generally do not make her miss games/performances/practices etc, but she is not going out with her friends.

Taking away the computer/Video games/electronic equipment from my boys has really been the only way to get their attention. And it works!

That largely depends on the individual teen. Some requires only a good explanation of why that's unacceptable and some require a bit of grounding to drive the point home.

I may require grounding such no tv or gaming for 3 weeks and if it ever happens again we will sell the game system.

we don't ground, we haven't needed to implement punishment very much. Making them clean something seems to work well enough for now.

We try to. It last maybe a night, but overall Trent's a good kid and does chores we ask. He's going to be 17 next month!

Ty doesn't get grounded even though he should sometimes, but he has atrophy of the brain and is slow to understand things.
