My daughter went to a fast food restaurant where her friend works and got part of her order for free. I know that when I was a kid and worked at Dunkin Donuts, I gave my friends and brother food all the time, but now as an adult, I know that it was wrong then and wrong for Sarah to take the free food today. How do I communicate to her that it's wrong, when all her friends do it?

That is a tough one. I would probably try to talk to her and tell her it is the same thing as stealing. Although as a teen, she willprobably just think you are being a weird Mom! Mine often thinks this about me!

We talked about it. I told her the law would treat her the same as they treated her friend who had given the food away. I asked her if her friend worked at a clothing store, would it be steeling if her friend gave her a shirt. She seemed to put it together then.

That was a really good anology. I read this thread the other day and have been thinking about it since then, trying to think of how I would react if my mother had to have that conversation with me. That anology works very well!
