Well this post is beyond late, but still wanted to get it in. I know there have been mannnyyyy times where I read and re-read these to get a little inspiration to keep moving forward on my ttc journey so I want to give someone else the opportunity to read my story and know that miracles do happen.
Lauren was born on Thursday, February 18th. Her EDD was March 7th, but we knew she would probably go a bit earlier because my OB didn't want me to go into labor. Background: I have had 6 losses due to a combination of blood clotting issues, fibroids and advanced maternal age probably didn't help though when I started my journey I wasn't considered AMA. DH and I married in 04, started trying in 05. First loss was blighted ovum, second was unexplained at 5.5 weeks. Did some testing at that point and came back with inconsistent ACA levels in my blood which causes clotting. Put on baby aspirin and had a 3rd loss. After that I went to a specialist, did genetic testing, had a forth loss with lovenox and baby aspirin. Did a hysteroscopy and saw that my fibroids may be the culprit and recommended a myomectomy but asked me to get a second opinion as that is major surgery. The second opinion wasn't convinced about the fibroids. Ran more tests. Saw a hematologist. Recommended a regimen of blood thinners and baby aspirin the moment I got my bfp. Got pregnant and followed the regimen. Had a loss. Decided to try IVF because at that point it took about 6 months for me to get my bfp the last time and I was then officially advanced maternal age. Did IVF, got a bfp. Betas were very low, ended up ectopic. At that point I felt like I should go ahead and get the fibroids removed before I spent anymore $$ on IVF to eliminate every possible cause. Got them out December of 08. Waited until it was safe to start ttcing again and did another round of IVF. Got a BFP in June of 09. Because of the myomectomy in 12/08 we always knew I would have a planned c-section due to the threat of rupture if I went into labor. Started lovenox (40 mg 1x per day) and baby aspirin after we saw the hb at 5 weeks. Monthly visits to the OB and hematologist to monitor my blood clotting factors. First trimester was pretty smooth, just very prayerful as I had never gotten past 9 weeks before. Generally issue free until the third trimester. I got carpel tunnel, then started seeing clots in my placenta. They upped my blood thinner to 2X per day. Blood pressure started creeping up. OB set my c-section date to 2/25. Did a 24 hour urine sample and bloodwork, not spilling protein so I was ok. Blood pressure continued to creep up and I began seeing stars. Repeated the urine sample and bloodwork on a Friday. Had OB appointment the following Tuesday. Got a call from the OB that Monday. Uh oh. Yep, moved my c-section date up to that very Thursday, 2/18.
Arrived at the hospital at 6 AM. Had two very cool nurses that took my vitals and hooked me up to a monitor. Then had a shift change and a very neurotic nurse took over. My doctor hadn't arrived yet. Asked me how far along I was then proceeded to ask me why I was there, tell me that I was too early and they might need to send me home (???). Um, excuse me lady? Do you think I just walked in off the street and decided to have a c-section that day??? I told her to call my doctor. They took my blood pressure and of course it was through the roof. The doctor on duty finally came in and spoke to me, then called my doctor and got the nurse straight. She was ok after that but she never apologized. She also caused me to miss my slot so we had to wait until around 9:30 to go to the ER. I got my spinal, DH came in and they got little Lauren out at 10:19 AM. 5 lbs 6 oz of beautiful baby girl miracle. They cleaned her up and put her under the heat lamp while I was in recovery. The bf'ing didn't get off to the best start. Because she was so little and losing weight they gave her formula without my permission which screwed me from the beginning. She was a very sleepy baby and would fall asleep while nursing. So we supplemented from the beginning and my milk didn't actually come in until almost 2 weeks after I gave birth. I lost a lot of blood during the delivery and was anemic for months after which played a big part. It was hard in the beginning with the bfing. Lauren's latch wasn't the greatest and I struggled with my supply. But she was here! My little baby that I longed for for so many years was here, healthy and lovely. At the end of the day that was all that mattered and I would do it all again in a heartbeat to experience that feeling of elation and thankfullness again. So don't give up hope ladies. Have faith in whateve higher power you believe in and live your life as if your prayers have been answered.
My prayers for a healthy baby to hold in my arms were answered on February 18, 2010. God is GOOD! Mommy to 6 angel babies. Nicole
