I had to be at the hospital at 5:00 pm on Thursday. They hooked me up to all of the monitors- 2 were hooked to my belly via a belly band to monitor my contrax and the baby's h/b. They also ran an IV line, as that was how they were going to administer the pitocin the next morning (I was also told that if I was going to have an epidural that I would have to have one bag of fluid BEFORE they could do it). That night, they started me with Cervadil (sp?), which is a tampon like thing that they insert to thin the cervix. I was told that just that can sometimes put you into labor, but I had no such luck. My doctor had told me that I would be able to eat, unless I started having contractions, until my induction was started in the morning. They were telling me that I couldn't eat, but finally the nurse made a deal with me (at around 9) that I could eat as long as I didn't eat too much and I didn't get sick on her (she was p/g and it would have made her sick too! biggrin.gif ). So, I had a little to eat. Then I tried to sleep- which was very difficult when I was so worried and I just couldn't get comfortable in the bed. In the morning, they checked me and I had dialated 2 more cm (to a 3), but that was about it and my cervix didn't really make any progress. I took a shower and ate a very small breakfast. They then came and took some blood (I don't remember what for, but they took a total of 7 vials while I was there). Then they started the pitocin. I didn't progress very much with it and it didn't really increase my contrax any. They checked me again at 12 and I was the same, so they decided to break my waters. My doctor came in to see me at around 2 and I had progressed only 1 cm from where I was at 7 that morning to ALMOST a 4. I was starting to worry because I thought I had gone much quicker with DS. My doctor suggested that I get up, as I had just been sitting in bed watching TV. I got up and went to the bathroom and then sat in a rocking chair for a little while. Around 2:30, I decided that my contrax were really starting to bother me and that I would go ahead and have the epidural (I think that the nurses were really surprised that I didn't get it before then because they said that my contrax were really strong, but they didn't really bother me!). They came to give me the epi at 3:00, and it was a BIG relief from the pain of my contrax, but I could still feel all of the pressure. The nurse checked me at around 3:30 per my request (I wanted to see if the more painful contrax were really accomplishing something!). She said I was at an 8!!! A little after 4, I called the nurse in because I was feeling a TON of pressure. She came in and checked at about 4:15 (she had been on the phone with my doctor). She told me that I was ready, but not to push just yet and to breath through the contrax. That is the worst thing ever, but it also helps you to stretch a little without tearing. The doctor got there a few minutes later at about 4:30. She told me I could go ahead and push. I pushed 3 or 4 times and the doctor told me that I should hold off pushing so I could stretch some more and hopefully not tear (at this point, I could see the top of the baby's head!). This was very painful, because I could feel it burning from where I was really stretched! She told me that I could push with the next contrax, so I did and the baby came out! She was born at 4:39 pm.I did end up tearing, but only because she came out with her hand across her body, up against her head. It was only a small tear, though, much better than the one that I had with DS. I had to wait a minute to find out that baby was a she, because they forgot that we were having a surprise! She was put on me for a few minutes. They then took her across the room to suction her and get her measurements. DH followed them with the video camera. They brought her back to me and I started nursing her, while DH called DS to tell him that he had a little sister!

Amazing! I'm so happy that you finally got your little girl in your arms & everything is well. From the sounds of it, labor wasn't all that bad. Congrats!
