I am looking for ideas for christmas gifts for the NICU. Last Christmas I made little dove ornaments out of this dough that said peace, love, hope and a short story about our journey in the NICU. I didn't like them very much so i want to make something different. I also want to start collecting journals and pens for the parents of the babies in the NICU.

My ideas so far are bottle cap pins for the nurses that say NICU nurse, and magnets for the parents that say "Parents of a preemie, NICU graduate, Preemie parents" something along those lines.

This november we celebrate my daughters 4th birthday, and my younger daughter turns two next week, she was in the same NICU for only 18 days, but it holds a very dear spot in my heart so I want to contribute something. I will be making them for both NICU's as we spent a lot of time at both. So something that's easy to make lots of.

What do you guys think? Any neat ideas come to mind? I don't want to make blankets or quilts as there's already people that do that.

Any feedback would be appreciated thanks ladies

I'm a member of a group that makes gift bags for all the parents of kids in the NICU. At Christmas we do stockings instead of bags. We put in stuff like this:

- Blanket with a poem (about having the smell of mom on them)
- Pen and journal/notebook
- Post-its
- Knitted hats for baby
- Lotion
- Germ-x
- Baby magazines
- Suduko/ Word Finds
- Gift cards to fast food places

I know you can't do all that, but maybe that'll give you some ideas.

You can check us out at Footprints Ministry, Inc. - Home

ETA: Almost forgot... we always put in snacky foods/candy and water bottles (those little bitty ones)

Oh wow that is fantastic!! Thank you so much for sharing, you have inspired me! I am going to find out if we have anything like that here, as far as I know we don't. If not than I might just start up something like this, I would so love to give back to the other parents and nurses like you guys do!

If you're a knitter, preemie hats are always a winner and they're pretty easy to make. My BFF from college was inspired by my son, and has organized her office to make preemie hats and incubator covers for a local NICU.

You can contact Kim (the founder) and actually start a Footprints Ministry in your city if you want. She loves when people hear about us and start up their own chapter in their city. We have Footprints chapters throughout Alabama and Georgia now.
