For those that have had amnio's done for lung maturity what tests did you have ran? How many weeks were you? And what were the results?

I had it done yesterday and my LBC came back as 12,000. I demanded they do the L/S Ratio and I am STILL waiting on the results and I am nervous that it won't come back to what I need it to be.

Does anyone know if it's possible to have a LBC of 12,000 and get the L/S Ratio at 2.0 where I need it to be in order to deliver NOW instead of waiting?

I'm sorry, I don't really understand your question. If I missed your story, I apologize. Do you need to deliver now? If not, why not just wait until the baby is ready? Again, if I missed a portion of your story, please forgive me.

No worries, I thought I had shared it at one time or put more info and I didn't. Anyway, I would LOVE to wait until 40 weeks and to go into labor on my own. However I've had several complications arise during the pregnancy and it's not really an option. I have pre-e, ketones in my urine to the point they don't even register, sugar and protein spilling into my urine as well, reduced fetal movement, non-reactive NST's and have had a few failed BPP's and those that have been okay she is really slow to pass them- she passes them around the 25-29 minute mark out of the 30 minutes allowed for it.

I understand! Sorry I missed the back story. 12,000 isn't really high, but at 37 weeks it sure seems like it'll be ok. I don't know about a L/S relative to that LBM, but again, at 37 weeks, I'd expect it to be around 2.0 or 2.5 at least! They can give baby surfactant after birth if they have to as well, but of course it is just so much better to not have to! Good luck and KUP!!

I had an amnio done at 24 weeks but that was to see if their was any genetic abnormalities not lung maturity. Madison had a Diaphragmatic Hernia and we wanted to see if McKenzie had any problems. They are identical twins. I ended up having them at 28 weeks and their lungs were not developed. McKenzie had surfactant after birth. Madison had a lot of lung issues but that was do to the Diaphragmatic Hernia. I did not get the steroid shot since I had severe HELLP and it was an emergency situation. I know I am no help but at 37 weeks they typically do rather well. Actually McKenzie went home from the NICU at 37 weeks.

I am no help either, since Jim came early because my water broke. But I hope your test results come back good!

They didn't come back with the numbers we needed. Her lungs still aren't mature and my placenta is starting to fail. I go back to the peri on Monday and we'll see what the decision is.

Thank you all for the kind words.

The NICU is a hard place but if the baby is better on the outside even if lungs not matured than the NICU can do a lot. Vents are hard but if needed. McKenzie was only a vent over night. She was on c-pap for a few weeks and than just nasal oxygen for a bit. She was a 28 weeker. Her twin sister a whole other story. Hope things are good enough to go full term.

And honestly, she is SO much better outside at this point if the placenta is failing than on the inside. The NICU isn't easy, but it is necessary sometimes.
