What are some things that are positive about having a preemie?













For me, it's the other preemie parents we've connected with that we wouldn't have otherwise. All our NICU friends are people I'm glad we have in our lives.

The upside for me is that I'm not as paranoid about things and I am calmer about things when the kids get sick. I know what to look for and don't get so upset.

Tiff, that's a good point. I don't sweat the small stuff that I know I would have obsessed over if Jim had been full-term.

Also, we ended up buying a whole lot less of the unnecessary baby gear out there on the market, since we had the 9 weeks in the NICU to learn what you actually need and what you don't.

A pro is they fit in their clothes forever! My girls are 2 and still wearing some 12month stuff from last year!!

That's very true Beth!

The other upside, at least for me, is that with subsequent babies I was less nervous about the possibility of another preemie since I knew what to expect. I'd also get past that 26 week mark where I was with Robbie and I'd breathe a sigh of relief. I also cherished being pregnant up until that 40 week mark more than I think that I would've.
