Hey guys, dh and i are joining the parent advisory council at our NICU which basically provides support for parents of kids in the NICU so i'm looking for thoughts on what you would want from something like this. We're just now joining and i'm already flooded with ideas, but i wanted to see what other people thought they would have found useful... whether it be information (they already provide a big booklet with medical terms, growth charts info about the area etc), events you would have liked to attend (they already do monthly luncheons), they also give little gifts to the kids for holidays, things like that.... Any thoughts on ANYTHING is appreciated, i am new to the council and i'de like to come in with a lot of fresh ideas

That is cool of you! Our NICU had a weekly support group, and the volunteers who led it also had "office hours" when they would be in our family lounge so you could chat with them less formally. Just talking to BTDT moms was super helpful for us, especially if their kids are doing well now.

They had weekly meetings at our 1st NICU, but could never seem to get there.

Our 2nd NIICU did not.

I think a book with terms would be helpful in the beginning and having either BTDT moms or volunteers around to chat with.

But for me now, I would feel like a volunteer and BTDT mom would have no idea what we went through unless they were there.

I did enjoy getting little hats and blankets for the girls though!
