Im popping in from the may DDC. I just found out im 8.4wks pregnant with fraternal twins. This will be #3 & 4 for us. My first was a preemie and my second was full term. I was already high risk and now that were having twins im just more high risk. Baby A is perfect but baby B is measuring behind and has a low heart rate. I dont really know what to expect anymore so any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi! I don't really hang out here, but saw your post and figured I'd jump in!
I'm Melissa, and I have 9 week old fraternal twins. They were born at 33w1d and spent 4 weeks in the NICU. I had problems with my cervix starting at 17.5 weeks, so I more or less planned on having some NICU time. I think having time to plan/prepare for something like that is a HUGE help...it is still tough, but I did some reading/research beforehand so I knew some of what to expect.
I highly recommend "The Premature Baby Book" by Dr. Sears. It gives a great overview of some of what you might encounter...the equipment used on a preemie, medications they might take, test that might be done, and gives great advice for how to handle life in the NICU. For me it was better to know the worst-case scenario and then be plesantly surprised when my babies were healthy...they just needed time to grow.
I'd love to answer any specific questions you have. The NICU is a rough place to be, but I thank God for it, because my twins are doing great!

All of mine have been premature. My first was 34 weeks, my second was 35 weeks, and then I got pregnant with my twins. They were born at 31 weeks. we were in Nicu for just under 2 months. My one survivor is doing so well there is no real sign that he was premature at all.
