I'm not too far - I live in the Twin Cities, MN. I've been there once a long time ago, to visit Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills. DH and I keep saying it would be a nice long weekend to go back there with our kids at some point.
My MIL and FIL go every year at the beginning of September. They came over the other day and told me of all the new places they visited or the places they hadn't been since my DH was a little boy.
I didn't know there was so much to see out there! They went out for 2 weeks this time and they really didn't stay in one place for too long...
One of the places that sounds really cool is the mammoth site. The mammoth's would go to this water hole where they would drink and bathe. The ground sank and the mammoth's couldn't get back out...
It would be a great place for children to learn about history and see a wonder of this world. Here's a website to show you a little more if you are interested. I just really thought this was cool and wondered if anyone has seen it or would be interested in seeing it.
I spoke to DH about it last night and he said, the year after we buy our house, we might go... the kids will be old enough to understand and appreciate it a bit more than now.
