OK so I'm putting a shadow on something. How do I know which shadow to put on? Forgive me for sounding totally ignorant, but there are about eight choices and I can't figure out what looks good. Any advice?

I just do and undo the different options until I like how it looks.

I use the low setting and adjust too. I try to think of what the shadows would actually look like in "real life" if the light was hitting the elements in a certain direction. Papers would have a small shadow, frames would cast a larger shadow and bows might have a shadow that has distance to it. I'm not very good at this yet though!

I don't think I use the same program as you, so I'm no help there...but my settings are usually the same, but I use PSPXI

same here. We just have full control over where the shadow goes and how dark and how much blue is in it

I usually adjust the settings myself.. frames and bows get more distanced and lighter shadows, papers & paperclips, etc get darker & closer shadows...

Thanks, girls! So do you typically put shadows on everything? I have been messing around with them a little and I think I'm slowly getting the hang of it.

95% of stuff gets shadowed(unless they come preshadowed).

I shadow pretty much everything except text. I don't use the shadow styles that come with PS though, I have my own... and I normally put them on a separate layer so I can move them around. the farther away from the paper, the bigger the shadow I use on the element.

OK. Now I feel like I've been doing this all wrong. If it looks okay to me, does that mean it's probably preshadowed? Sometimes I can't tell, but maybe that's because it already looks "right"? Do most things you buy in a kit come preshadowed?

Do any of my layouts look like they need shadowing and no one has ever told me? lol...

Most items don't come with a shadow. But the designer will usually name it "blue flower shadow" or just "blue flower" if it doesn't have one. So that's one way to know. I'll have to go back and look at your past layouts again to let you know about your past shadows, but I'll keep a closer eye out for them now and let you know if I have any suggestions for future LO

I love it when shadowed elements come in their own download file, I just don't get those then.
